A Piece of Mind is a legal document preparation service. Started in 2009 by law school graduates, Rebecca Ritchey and Pablo Zamora, A Piece of Mind offers a low cost alternative to individuals that prefer to represent themselves in their legal matters.
Our goal is to help those individuals who are trying to help themselves. We understand that in today’s economy the high cost of litigation and attorney’s fees is simply not an option for many people as they try to navigate their way through the legal process and court system.
A Piece of Mind is here to help you prepare your legal documents at prices that are far lower than having an attorney do it for you. We are the Do-It-Yourself solution to your legal document needs.
What does a Legal Document Assistant (LDA) do?
An LDA is an experienced professional authorized by legislation in California to prepare legal documents for a client, but only at the direction of the client. Clients who want to represent themselves, but get lost in all the confusing paperwork often seek the assistance of an LDA to make sure their information gets placed correctly on the forms.
Our services here at A Piece of Mind are one on one and we help put our clients at ease by walking them individually through the forms in a timely manner. Most legal acts can be handled without the assistance of an attorney, at least in the initial stages; as long as the client knows what they are doing. That is what an LDA is here to ensure, that the client knows what he/she is doing so that forms get filed properly and promptly avoiding the legal hassles of delay and rejected paperwork.
What’s the advantage of hiring an LDA?
•
COST. Attorneys require retainer fees and more than half of it goes to just filling out the legal paperwork. You can do this yourself and possibly even avoid the cost of retaining an attorney all together!
•
Ease and Efficiency. Most matters can be handled with one visit to an LDA.
•
LDAs are experienced in filling out legal forms and can help make the judicial system less confusing.
Just because an LDA is only there to fill out forms doesn't mean they aren't an invaluable resource for your legal matter. "Self-help" means that an LDA can give you access to information, research, and brochures that will help you do it yourself. A Piece of Mind has access to commercial and attorney prepared packets that explain the law and the legal process to help our clients understand what they are doing. That way the client does not feel lost when filing their paperwork and are confident that they can handle their legal matter on their own.
Do I need an LDA?
•
If you don't know where to start or do not understand your legal rights in a situation, then it is usually best to first seek the advice of an attorney.
•
However, if you've already decided on a course of action and just do not know how to complete the necessary paperwork, then it is time to seek the assistance of an LDA.
•
Also, if you purchased or downloaded pre-printed legal forms, but still can't figure out what needs to be done, then it is time to see an LDA for some help.
